teNeues // The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Book

While working for various advertising agencies in the 1990s I stumbled upon the work of René Staud for the first time I think. He took photos of some of the coolest cars around back then. Looking at these photos today, is like travelling through time.

Now teNeues released this stunning „The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Book“ edited by René Staud and this combination works pretty well. Once the Mercedes-Benz W198 was a proper racing car and even though it still is a really manly machine, it seems like most of the owners don’t remember these roots.

The Mercedes-Benz SL always has been a high technology car with some proper muscles on the one hand. On the other hand though it changed his habitat from race tracks to golf tracks. Which is a pity. But now there’s this great book. The photos might look a little cheesy sometimes, but in our imagination we can wipe away the colored lights and give the SL the manly treatment it deserves.
